Lettuce And More Lettuce…

Posted on 24 December 2013 by robertflournoy

The excitement was high on Saturday when all the volunteers came out to harvest

lettuce for food banks and our families that our struggling with food in the

community. We had over 40 volunteers that were very energetic and ready to

go and it showed when they helped Second Harvest as well buy picking enough

lettuce to feel 7 pallets for the organizations they serve.

Everyone was amazed how fast they picked for the food bank and also for

the president of Loaves And Fishes x10 who took his load to the Orange County

Rescue Mission,Hands Of Mercy Encounter and the Santa Ana food bank.

AG Kawamura owner of Orange County Produce was very excited to see  the

quantity volunteers picked that Saturday and so were we at the ministry.

We are planning to resume our gleaning/harvesting on Saturday 5th at the Great

Park picking cabbage. If you would like to come out you can contact us at

loavesandfishesx10.com for volunteers opportunities.

Not even the rain could stop a 2,500 pound harvest!

Posted on 11 December 2013 by robertflournoy

“There is no concern about the weather” says, Loaves and Fishes x10 President Robert

Flournoy.  “We’re out rain or shine!”  Well, it rained and at times it really came down.

But to the surprise of all involved, the rain instead of dampening, lifted the mood.  Smiles

and laughs throughout the morning.  We gathered about 2,500 pounds of 4 varieties

of lettuce…Romaine,Red Romaine, Red Leaf and Green Leaf in record time of about 45 minutes!

Some of the largest heads of lettuce!  After the volunteers from the Boy Scouts (Little Rascals)

Giving Children Hope, Saddleback Church and Calvary Chapel picked 1,000 pounds for

L & F x10, they continued harvesting 1,500 pounds more for Second Harvest!

Big thanks to all of helping hands this day!  As a result of the great day’s efforts, Santa Ana Food Bank, Orange County Rescue Mission, Hands of Mercy Encounter and Southwest Community Center received fresh produce straight from the farm.

A.G Kawamura owner of Orange County Produce spoke to the president at the end of last weeks

harvest telling him Saturday 16th harvest will be also be a gleaning project.

We will pick the rest of the 4 acre field clean of all the produce for Food Banks

and Food Pantries. This has been very exciting  not just for L&F x10 but also for

all the groups that came out to participate to help feed the community and

the people they serve.

We want to thank the Great Park, A.G Kawamura and the Valor program for the

opportunity to come in with organizations to harvest the fresh produce for the low

income and poor in Orange County…

Teams showed up this morning ready to harvest what we didn’t get last Saturday at the

Great Park in Irvine California. Giving Children Hope, Saddleback Church Food Pantry

First Baptist Church and a volunteer from Irvine Valley College Circle K Club all came

out and picked fresh produce from Orange County Produce farm land. Its always exciting

to see these groups come out and enjoy themselves as they put hard work in to help feed

our low income in our community…

Everyone enjoyed the fresh air and the smell of the produce that was picked this morning.

The atmosphere in the fields does something to you because you are literally picking the

produce that has been planted, grown and then harvested…
