When Anticipation Becomes A Reality…

Posted on 16 May 2016 by robertflournoy

may 14th 10

Two weeks before the May 14th gleaning event there was a lot of anticipation of

just how it was going to go. You see volunteers have been coming out in numbers

to help stomp out hunger through the gleaning process at the Great Park on Orange

County Produce farmland so obviously we wanted it to be the same on this weekend.

may 14 th 5

Volunteers came from Montebello to help glean fresh cabbage for Heart of Compassion

an organization known for  fighting hunger through networking with organizations.

This organization has been working with Loaves and Fishes x10 for over 3 years

and they are no stranger to the fields here in Orange County,

With their 24 foot Bobtail Heart of Compassion went back home with 7,000 lbs

of fresh picked cabbage by some of the best dedicated volunteers there are in the

community. We have nothing but good things to say about the US Navy volunteers

that keep coming out to the fields led by Alex and Vince. We certainly appreciate

them guys and girls tremendously.

If you would like to be a part of whats happening at the farms you can contact

robert@loavesandfishesx10.com and request a waiver and he will send you one

along with an update on the next gleaning project.

Continue to follow the road which will lead you to the left.

On your left side you will see more acres of produce so keep straight all the way to Alton street..

make sure you stop because that is a through street into the park. FedEx has trailers just to the left.

After you stop don’t turn left continue straight across to the field about 100 yards down on your right.

Rain And The Muddy Ground Couldn’t Stop The Volunteers From Gleaning 8,000 lbs OF Cabbage…

9:am was the time volunteers were to show up at the cabbage fields this morning.

The president of Loaves and Fishes x10 was there at 8:am along with his brother

so that they could get a few rolls cut and ready before the volunteers came and began

to help fight hunger through the gleaning process.

boy scouts

Volunteers that showed up came from different parts of Orange County. The  Boy Scouts,

Troop #604 from Laguna Niguel came out for their first time along with there leader

and did a great job. They were taught how to cut cabbage with the knives that are used

in the fields. They also were very instrumental in carrying out crates of cabbage and

also setting up the crates.

Volunteers from the U.S. Navy who have been a very strong supporter of Loaves and

Fishes x10 came out once again and helped to glean over 8,000 lbs for HOC an

organization from Montebello. Heart of Compassion has also been a great supporter

of L&F x10 they usually send out a truck to “The Original Manassero Farms” when

the Manasseros’s donate thousands of pounds of produce to help fight hunger. The

Original Manassero Farms donated over 250,000 lbs to L&F x10 in #2013

8,000 lbs

Although the fields were muddy and a lot of shoes might have been covered with mud

we were able to glean over 8,000 lbs of fresh organic cabbage. We have another date

to glean fresh produce at the Great Park on Orange County Produce Farm Land on

Saturday May 14th. We are expecting another great morning to do what we do best
